Implementation

This section is devoted to the practicalities of implementing the Plug and Play curriculum. Some of this content may not apply directly to your situation. For example, you may use Google Classroom instead of Canvas. However, you may still want to consider the content here. Many of the same considerations will come up with various apps and platforms.

Procedures

Each day, we follow these procedures:

After the bell rings, each student gets out their computer, goes to Canvas, and checks their grades.

Any lesson they didn't earn a 100 on, they view the feedback, make corrections, and resubmit.

Then, they go to the modules section of Canvas and move on to whatever lesson is next for them. This lesson will not be the same for everyone.

While the students work on their lessons, I move around the room with my tablet monitoring what everyone is doing and grading the previous day's work for the students in that class. This allows me to address misconceptions, ask students to correct small mistakes without the need for resubmission, and ensure everyone is making progress.

translation link Plug and Play.mov

Translation

My school has a high population of students whose first language is Spanish. When embedding the lessons into Canvas, it makes it impossible for students to translate them using many, if not all, of the accessibility tools they usually use on their Chromebooks. To give my students access to a version of the lesson they can copy and paste into Google translate, I have a translation link at the bottom of the first slide on each lesson.

To create this link, copy the share link for the lesson and apply it to the Spanish text at the bottom of the slide. The video above will demonstrate.

You can also adapt the sentence to other languages if needed.

Force Copy of Google Doc.mov

Force copy

When providing handouts or other digital items through Google Drive, you will often need to force the students to make a copy. I've indicated when that's needed in the implementation instructions for each lesson. If you don't know how to do that, the video above will demonstrate.
